Today I hand over my blogging duties to Mr. Inglese, the high school principal.  Mr. Inglese has served as the high school principal at Penn-Trafford  for 11 years.Without further ado, here is Mr. Inglese:

Karen Skandera, chair of the Health and Physical Education Department, and Larry Cooper, Athletic Trainer, at Penn-Trafford High School, recently applied for and received a $9,326 Highmark Healthy High 5 grant from the Highmark Foundation.

Karen, Larry, and the department have stepped up to the challenge and have incorporated a Lifetime Activities Program that will help to maximize the time students are engaged in physical activity.  Their program incorporates two primary activities, (1) a biking unit, and (2) a workout video unit.
Each unit is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to lead a healthy lifestyle now and in their futures.

With the funds the Health and Physical Education Department received, they were able to purchase a flat screen television and 15 Cannondale Bicycles in order to implement their Lifetime Activities Program.   The bikes come equipped to be either a stationary exercise bike or a fully functional, road capable bike.  The idea behind the multifaceted bicycles is to fully engage students in an active lifestyle indoors as well as outdoors.  When the weather is not cooperating, students will have the ability to work indoors with the bicycles and the flat screen television as part of the new workout series that has been implemented into the current fitness program.

Highmark Healthy High 5 is an initiative of the Highmark Foundation and is partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide Pennsylvania schools with grants to support their interest and dedication in offering programs that address the nutrition and activity needs of students.

  3. This link posted above is quite alarming. I understand this took place while Dr. Kolonay was in her position as Superintendent. What have you done since you overtook her position to ensure that such things aren't still happening?

  4. It is a shame that people who post a comment can't stick to the topic of the original post.

The fact that there is another positive program for our students should be commended. Thank you for striving to improve the opportunities for the students of our community.

  5. How is a post that addresses the well-being of the students and the integrity of the district in ANY way unrelated to EVERY post on this website? If perhaps the district would have taken care of this when it should have been taken care of, then this issue wouldn't still be a great concern for many of the members of this community. I am assuming that the district is hoping it will be forgotten and swept under the rug along with all their other past issues, but this enough is enough and the residents of the community deserve more credit than that. Now THAT is "a shame"!

  6. I am reading this thread of conversations with interest. This blog is meant as a positive outlet to communicate some of my thoughts about education and to highlight district programs and student achievements.

It seems as if there is someone that has an issue with something that happened in the school district. I believe a more positive forum for this person's complaints would be to call me so I can understand their point of view better. Please call me at 724-744-4496 so I can better understand your perception of this issue.

    Thanks!

  7. Dr. Butler I commend your willingness to "understand the point of view" but I do believe I have made my point quite clear on numerous occasions. I cannot speak for the individual who moderates the site and continually deletes them. I would be more than willing to discuss the matters with you, but I disagree, and feel that this forum is a perfect tool for communication. These are matters that involve the entire district/community and should be addressed publicly. We (everyone) have a right to know. I look forward to your clarification on these issues.

    Thanks!!!

  8. An encouraging thing about Reiner's choice for new super that he mentioned in the PT Star, is this blog section implying Scott may support issues like community engagement and transparent budgeting. It is unfortunate that this section was the beginning of disgruntled comments and hopefully this will not turn Scott against things like the Register or Toni's sites. No one, past or present, from the register made comments in this section.
